Obviously, this species is not unique to Costa Rica, but that didn't stop me from photographing this beautiful bird. The feeders the staff had set out did a great job of attracting birds, but the rapidly changing light conditions, with the sun quickly coming and going from behind dense clouds, made it tough to keep up! With the sun out, I didn't need or want any flash, and could drop my ISO and go for a more rapid shutter speed, but when it disappeared, I had to quickly increase ISO, adjust shutter speed (and aperture if necessary), and turn on the flash.
