This species is the national bird of Costa Rica, which has always seemed to me to be an odd choice, given the astonishing colors and beauty in so many of the other species to choose from. Our guide indicated that many of the more unique birds are quite limited in their location, while the Clay-colored Robin is present throughout the country, and that this influenced its being chosen. It is a beautiful bird, and I'm glad to include it here, but I wouldn't argue with a different choice!
